For many families, a significant factor in the college process centers around financial aid.  Therefore, it is important to consider how colleges factor financial aid into admission as well as the development and awarding of aid packages.  Policies vary from school to school, so it is imperative that you read the materials provided by each college and contact the college's financial aid office if you have questions.

NEW INFORMATION FOR THE FREE APPLICATION FOR FEDERAL STUDENT AID (FAFSA)

The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is the single most important application a family can file to be considered for financial aid. It is administered by the U. S. Department of Education, required by all colleges and universities, and has no application fee. You can visit fafsa.ed.gov to complete the application, which NOW becomes available on October 1st of each year. (From the Massachusetts Educational Financing Authority - MEFA.org)

College Financing Advising for Boston-Area Students

• The American Student Assistance College Planning Center opened its doors in October 1984 as the Higher Education Information Center, Boston’s first comprehensive resource for information on post-secondary education, financial aid, and career information. With a main location in the Boston Public Library in Copley Square, and multiple other sites in the city, the Center provides free drop-in college planning services and promotes the belief that higher education should be accessible to individuals of all backgrounds. Discounted Tuition at Out-of-State Colleges in New England

• The New England Board of Higher Education's Tuition Break program, the New England Regional Student Program (RSP), enables thousands of New England residents to enroll at out-of-state New England public colleges and universities at a discount. Students are eligible for the RSP Tuition Break when they enroll in an approved major that is not offered by the public colleges in their own state.
